Caley Thistle midfielder Danny Williams is determined not to allow his side to finish the season with a whimper following last night’s 1-0 defeat against Aberdeen.
Ashton Taylor’s header two minutes into the second half proved decisive at Pittodrie, with Inverness having now gone six league games without a victory since the 2-1 win at St Mirren on February 14.
Defeat meant Caley Thistle fell 11 points behind the Dons, who moved a step closer to their best finish since 1994.
Despite the loss Inverness are still well on course to qualify for European football for the first time in their 21-year history, with Dundee United remaining eight points behind in fourth following the Tangerines’ 3-1 loss against city rivals Dundee.
Williams knows what is at stake and with a match against Celtic on Saturday, followed by next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final against the Hoops at Parkhead, the Englishman wants to ensure his team do not let the opportunity of an historic season pass them by.
Williams said: “We’ve done most of the hard work, but it comes now to the business end of the season and we want to cement our place where we are. It would be fantastic if the club could finish third.”
