Caley Thistle assistant manager Russell Latapy will wait to ensure his move into management is the right one.
Latapy was in charge of home nation Trinidad and Tobago for two years but was sacked in 2011. The 46-year-old was interviewed for the Alloa Athletic job prior to Danny Lennon’s appointment last month and has also been linked with the vacant position at Raith.
Inverness could seal third place in the Premiership with a win against Dundee tomorrow and Latapy is prepared to play the waiting game. He said: “I spoke to the chairman at Alloa and had a really good conversation, but I thought the time wasn’t right.
“It’s a case of waiting for the right opportunity. Being in the game for some time, I get a feeling for these things. I’m not in a position to make those decisions, so I’m just focused on Caley Thistle. I am very happy.
“I knew when I was getting close to retirement that I wanted to stay in football. I wasn’t sure in what capacity, so John invited me to Falkirk as a player-coach. I knew from that moment that coaching was what I wanted to get into.
“Towards the end of my playing days, I took my coaching badges and fortunately I’ve finished them now.
“I’m now here working with John at Caley Thistle and I’m delighted with the way things are going. His ideas are very similar to mine and we want to get the ball down and create chances.
“Once the right club comes then it’s something I would definitely think about. The Raith Rovers situation was a surprise to me. I didn’t know anything about it until it was in the papers, so I haven’t given it any thought.
“If the right opportunity comes, I would think about it. But it’s definitely not right now.”
