Caley Thistle’s planned visit to the city’s Falcon Square today has been cancelled after a replica of the trophy was damaged.
The figure of a footballer on the top of the trophy was broken during a photocall at the Drumossie Hotel yesterday, with efforts made to glue it back on.
It was the latest event in Inverness’ trophy tour around the city, with the cup having visited various schools and sponsors this week.
The real Scottish Cup trophy remains at the Scottish football museum at Hampden Park.
Manager John Hughes refused to believe the accidental damage is a bad luck sign for Inverness’ prospects of lifting the cup after next Saturday’s cup final against Falkirk.
Hughes said: “I saw someone trying to get superglue for the cup. But it’s not a bad omen.
“I’m not superstitious, I don’t bother. I’ve touched the cup several times this week as well, it doesn’t bother me.
“The wee guy falling off the top doesn’t matter.”
