St Johnstone substitute Graham Cummins scored a late equaliser to earn his side a point against an under-strength Caley Thistle.
Ryan Christie’s early strike looked to have earned Caley Thistle a first win of the new Scottish Premiership campaign but Cummins headed home in the final minute to deny John Hughes’ men the win.
The visitors were without injured central defensive duo Josh Meekings and Gary Warren with Daniel Devine and Ross Draper chosen to replace them at the heart of the Caley Thistle rearguard.
Congolese international Andrea Mutombo made his first start, while Lewis Horner and Liam Polworth were also drafted in with Nat Wedderburn dropping to the bench.
Murray Davidson, who was ruled out for three months with a cruciate ligament injury last month, made a welcome return for the Perth Saints well ahead of schedule.
Caley Thistle made the perfect start to the match, taking the lead after only nine minutes.
Dani Lopez pounced on a mistake by Frazer Wright but when he looked to have squeezed out by the Saints defence, Christie seized control and despatched the ball low into the corner of the net past Alan Mannus.
Saints went close to an equaliser after 23 minutes when Michael O’Halloran created space for himself to try his luck from the edge of the area but Owain Fon Williams was equal to his powerful attempt.
Tommy Wright’s men continued to press for parity after the restart with the returning Davidson denied a goal by a last-ditch block by Devine.
The Northern Irish defender went close to doubling the advantage soon after when his goal-bound attempt was hacked off the line by Liam Craig.
The home support were getting restless and manager Wright introduced Steven MacLean and Graham Cummins for the ineffective John Sutton and Simon Lappin in a bid to rouse his team.
But it was Inverness who looked the more likely with an excellent save from Mannus preventing the lively Christie grabbing his second of the afternoon.
However St Johnstone earned a point when Cummins equalised in the final minute with a superb header from a Joe Shaughnessy delivery.
