Caley Thistle midfielder Nat Wedderburn needs no warning about the threat Dundee’s attackers can pose his side this afternoon.
Wedderburn joined Inverness in the summer after a two-year spell in the Championship with Cowdenbeath.
During his time with the Blue Brazil, Wedderburn played alongside forwards Greg Stewart and Kane Hemmings who have since made the move to the top-flight with Dundee, and could form the attacking partnership that faces Caley Jags this afternoon.
The pair netted 40 goals between them during the 2013-14 campaign, which was Wedderburn’s first season at Central Park, and the Englishman says the Highlanders’ backline must be on guard to keep them quiet this afternoon.
Wedderburn said: “I played with Greg and Kane at Cowdenbeath. They were a good partnership when I played with them, so we’ll have to keep a close lookout for them on Saturday. They are a dangerous duo.
“Playing with them, I could see the quality they had and they deserve the opportunity as well. They have both started the season well and got a few goals for themselves.
“I played at Dens Park a couple of times two seasons ago – and actually won 2-1 in the league. It was the season Dundee went on to win the league so it was a big win for us.
“Hopefully, I can taste victory there again this weekend.”
Like Hemmings and Stewart, midfielder Wedderburn has also made the step up to the Premiership having joined John Hughes’ side on a one-year contract in the summer.
Wedderburn has made just three starts for Caley Jags so far but is determined to force his way into the line-up amidst the current injury crisis, which sidelined seven players for last weekend’s 2-0 defeat against Hamilton Accies.
The 24-year-old added: “While I was with Cowdenbeath everything I was working for was towards the aim of progressing to the Premiership. It’s up to me now to work hard to stay here.
“There are a few injuries, so there’s a chance I could play, but I don’t want to rely on injuries to be in the team.
“I want to get in the team because I deserve to be there. If the chance comes, it’s up to me to take it.
“I suppose it is frustrating for any footballer when they’re not playing regularly, so I just have to keep working hard. I need to be patient.”
