An injury time strike from Kane Hemmings denied Caley Thistle a first victory of the season at Dundee.
In a game with precious little goalmouth action, Inverness defender David Raven curled home from the edge of the area with his after 60 minutes to break the deadlock.
Dundee had a chance to equalise in the closing stages when Daniel Devine handled in the box but Greg Stewart’s penalty was saved by Owain Fon Williams.
But there was late drama in injury time with Hemmings volleying home the equaliser before Andrea Mutombo was sent off for a reckless challenge on Nick Ross.
Ryan Christie started for Inverness, despite speculation linking the attacking midfielder with a move to Celtic.
Manager John Hughes made one change from the team beaten 2-0 by Hamilton last weekend with Carl Tremarco replacing Liam Polworth, while there was a welcome appearance on the bench for long-term injury absentee Richie Foran.
Dundee, defeated 3-1 by League One Dunfermline on Tuesday, made three changes with captain Kevin Thomson, Nicky Low and Gary Irvine replacing Kevin Holt, Julen Etxabeguren and Gary Harkins.
Inverness were unbeaten in their previous 11 matches against Dundee but went into the match still searching for a first win of the season. Tremarco lined up in the centre of defence alongside Danny Devine with Ross Draper returning to the centre of midfield.
The visitors made a decent start and could have taken the lead after seven minutes when Raven found the unmarked Andrea Mutombo but the midfielder headed wide.
A low drive from Christie was gathered by Scott Bain at the second attempt as Caley Thistle continued to press for the opener.
After surviving a sustained period of Dundee pressure, Iain Vigurs should have broken the deadlock after linking up with David Raven but the midfielder shot wide with his weaker right foot.
Draper almost opened the scoring two minutes before the break with a fierce drive that was tipped round the post by Bain for a fruitless corner.
Vigurs had the first real chance of the second half but his effort from the edge of the area was comfortably handled by Bain.
But the visitors took the lead on the hour mark when the ball broke kindly for David Raven and the right back curled the ball with his left foot beyond Bain and into the far corner of the net.
Christie, who had impressed with some neat touches, almost grabbed a second for the Caley Jags when he skipped past Irvine before firing wide from an acute angle.
Dundee almost restored parity with 16 minutes remaining when Paul McGowan played in Kane Hemmings but the former Cowdenbeath attacker was superbly denied by Owain Fon Williams.
The home side were awarded a penalty when Devine handled a Stewart cross with Hemmings ready to head the ball home with the Inverness defender was fortunate to only see yellow.
But Stewart’s penalty was kept out by Fon Williams to ensure Inverness claimed all three points.
And Inverness had another let-off in the final minute when McGowan was unable to convert Low’s cross from only one yard out.
But the visitors finally gave way deep into injury time when Hemmings latched onto a long ball and drilled the ball into the net.
It went from bad to worse for Inverness as Mutombo saw red in the dying embers for a late challenge on Ross.
