Caley Thistle manager John Hughes is closing in on a new attacker with Miles Storey set to join the Scottish Cup winners on loan.
The 21-year-old is out of favour at League 1 side Swindon Town, but Inverness manager Hughes hopes a move to Scotland can revive the former England under-19 international’s career.
Hughes needs attacking reinforcements following the departure of Marley Watkins to Barnsley in the summer with summer recruit Dani Lopez having scored just once for the club in seven outings.
Storey is a product of the Swindon youth academy, but has failed to establish himself in the first team at the Wiltshire club.
He came close to joining St Mirren in January after spending the first half of last season on loan at League 2 side Portsmouth where he scored three goals in 22 appearances and eventually joined another League 2 club in Newport County where he scored twice in 20 appearances.
Storey’s arrival comes as Caley Jags midfielder Ryan Christie nears a move to Scottish Championship winners Celtic.
The Scotland under-21 international spent yesterday in Glasgow in discussions with the champions after being given permission to talk to the Hoops by his club.
Celtic have tabled an offer in the region of £500,000 for Christie, whose father Charlie also played for the Hoops and Caley Jags, with the Glasgow club willing to let him spend the rest of the season on loan at Caledonian Stadium before moving to Parkhead next summer.
Inverness manager Hughes, who also played for the Hoops, understands why the lure of playing for Celtic will be difficult for Christie, who has scored two goals in seven games so far this season, to resist.
He said: “Ryan is a Celtic supporter, that’s his club. His dad played for the club and I think that is where his heart lies. If Glasgow Celtic or Rangers come calling you don’t turn the Old Firm down.”
