Caley Thistle goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams believes the Highlanders were unrecognisable from the side that went six matches unbeaten prior to Saturday’s 2-0 Premiership defeat by Kilmarnock.
Goals from Greg Kiltie and Josh Magennis put Inverness to the sword at Rugby Park, with the result moving Killie to within a point of the eighth-placed Caley Jags.
After a slow start to the season, John Hughes’ side had enjoyed an upturn in fortunes but their purple patch came to an end in Ayrshire on Saturday.
Fon Williams has called on Caley Jags to rally to ensure they return to winning ways against St Johnstone this weekend.
He said: “We will look back on this and see where we need to improve – we all need to as a team.
“It was not good enough. That is not the team that’s been performing in the way it has done in the past weeks when we’ve been unbeaten.
“That team in the past has been a hungry team – – a side that’s been passionate and determined. It’s beem a team on the front foot and knowing it’s going to be first to the ball every time.
“Unfortunately, that team didn’t turn up.”
Fon Williams was part of the Wales squad that qualified for its first major tournament since 1958 last weekend but was frustrated the achievement was followed up by a defeat with his club side.
The 28-year-old felt Caley Jags began brightly but failed to capitalise.
Fon Williams, who joined Inverness in the summer on a free transfer after leaving Tranmere Rovers, added: “From a Wales point of view it’s good but from Saturday’s we need to roll our sleeves up and go again.
“I’m really gutted we lost that one.
“If we had continued to play like we had done in the first 20 minutes we would have turned them over, without being too disrespectful.
“It didn’t happen. Fair play to Kilmarnock, they played to their strengths and hit the big man up top. They were looking for the flick-ons and it worked for them.
“I don’t think we were at it enough at times, which was why we lost the game.”
