Caley Thistle midfielder Danny Williams accepts Inverness must eradicate their late lapses In concentration after more added-time pain against Partick Thistle.
The Inverness men looked set to leave Firhill with a draw after Miles Storey’s early opener cancelled out by Kris Doolan just before the break. But Ryan Stevenson’s final-minute cross to the back post eluded everyone and finished in the back of the net to give Partick an unlikely victory.
It is the third time in seven matches Caley Jags have conceded a goal in added time – two of which turned draws into defeats for John Hughes’ men.
Williams insists his side must learn how to see out matches better.
He said: “We’ve done it a couple of times this season, conceding last-minute goals. That’s something we need to stop if we want to get further up the league.
“We just have to look forward to Sunday’s match against Celtic and hope we can get a result out of that game.
“We started pretty well, passing the ball like we usually do, but that goal just ruined us at the end. I think we deserved at least a point out of the game, so it was disappointing.
“We did sit back a little bit, we stopped playing the way we usually do. We had a lot of joy in the first half from passing the ball and keeping it and creating opportunities. Then we stopped doing that. We sat back and it invited them on and that’s how they got the goal.”
Caley Jags have been dogged by injury problems since the start of the season but, slowly but surely, players are starting to return.
The club will play a friendly match at Buckie Thistle tomorrow in order to give players such as Gary Warren and Ross Draper, both on the bench on Saturday, some game time to get back their match sharpness.
Williams added: “Competition for places is everything and the players who have come into the team have done well. The squad is getting stronger now and that’s only going to make us better.”
