Caley Thistle manager John Hughes urged supporters to have a couple of drinks to Inverness after the Highlanders rounded off the festive period with a win.
A 2-0 victory against Ross County on Saturday secured Caley Jags’ place in the top six at the turn of the year. It continued an unbeaten run to five games and closed the gap on neighbours County to just two points, with a game in hand to come against Hearts.
“That’s back-to-back wins and a clean sheet,” said Hughes, pictured. “At this time of year there’s a few glasses of red and bottles of beer going about and sometimes you drink too much. That one’s for the supporters. Go and have a couple of glasses on us.”
County manager Jim McIntyre is counting the cost of injuries up front, with Liam Boyce and now Craig Curran ruled out. Boyce broke a hand in the win against Kilmarnock last midweek and will miss the next four weeks, while Curran, who missed two months this season after a concussion, was substituted just 17 minutes into the derby with another head injury.
“Craig’s had a bad fall. His head hit his shoulder and he’s had a bit of blurred vision in one of his eyes,” said McIntyre. “Losing Liam and Craig isn’t ideal but it’s up to other players to step up.”
