Caley Thistle’s leading scorer Miles Storey jas extended his loan deal from Swindon Town until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old was to return to the English League 1 outfit following Caley Jags’ Scottish Cup fourth round trip to Stirling Albion on Saturday, but has now committed his future to Caledonian Stadium until the summer.
Storey has been a success since joining from the Robins in September, scoring eight goals in 16 matches.
The forward has made clear his desire to stay in the Highlands in recent weeks, having struggled to break into Swindon’s first-team in recent seasons. He has made just 37 appearances for the club since making his debut in a 2-0 win against Southend in September 2011, with Caley Jags the fifth club he has been loaned out to following spells with Salisbury, Shrewsbury Town, Portsmouth and Newport County.
Storey said quickly settling in the Highlands made it an easy decision for him to stay and he is now intent on helping Caley Jags, currently sixth in the Premiership, continue to climb the table.
Storey said: “The best part of this club is the players and the manager, as a bunch. We’re all together and there are no cliques.
“I know people say that about every club, but it really is the case here and that’s the one thing that’s really helped me.”
Storey is relieved Saturday’s cup tie at Forthbank will not be his final game for holders Caley Jags.
Inverness players returned to training yesterday after being given three days off by Hughes following three games in eight days, and Storey was grateful for the break.
He added: “Fitness has a lot to do with my game, the way I play is tiring and towards the end of the Ross County game I was shattered.
“I just try to use my assets, get in past defences and I don’t mind taking a player on. That’s the way I like to play.”
