Caley Thistle midfielder Danny Williams is determined to make an impression in the latter part of the season as he aims to convince manager John Hughes he is worthy of a new contract.
Williams is one of several Inverness players out of contract at the end of the season, with only Gary Warren, Greg Tansey, Josh Meekings and Richie Foran signed up for next season.
With his future at stake, Williams has added incentive to perform well for Caley Jags and he said: “The contract will take care of itself at the end of the season if I play well and stay consistent. There are a lot of boys in a similar position.
“Lads are playing for points but also playing for their careers. That’s another positive for the club – everyone is striving for the best for themselves and the team.
“Hopefully, there is a chance to stay here.
“We don’t want to see anyone leave. The boys are fantastic.
“I’ve never seen a team spirit like it wherever I’ve been in football. I’m sure that will be what the club wants to do – keep the majority of the lads together.
“I’ve got a lot to thank Inverness for. I was playing part-time football before I came here. They brought me into full-time professional football and I really enjoy it here.
“We’ll see what happens. It’s up to the manager. I’m not really focusing on anything like that at the moment. I’ve just been concentrating on my football and working to stay in the team and help us put a good run together.”
Caley Thistle travel to Kilmarnock this afternoon aiming to extend a five-game unbeaten run in the league which has propelled John Hughes’ side into the top six.
Williams is eager to help Inverness stay there and the 27-year-old added: “Everyone is playing for places and that’s what we want. We were really unfortunate at the beginning of the season when we were struggling to fill the bench and playing players out of position.
“But we’re a good group of lads and everyone is willing to play anywhere. Like the manager says, we’re footballers and should be able to play anywhere on the pitch.
“It’s good to be in the top six but we’ll take each game as it comes and see where that takes us at the end of the season.
“We know from the past couple of seasons there is no better feeling than finishing up there, so it is something we want to achieve again.”
