Caley Thistle have defended their transfer dealings with Aberdeen, claiming it was Dons target Greg Tansey’s decision to remain in Inverness.
The Reds made a bid in excess of £200,000 for the Inverness midfielder before the transfer window closed on Monday, triggering what they believed was a release clause for the player. Despite lengthy negotiations Inverness would not sanction the sale and the move collapsed.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes had insisted his club had acted properly in its pursuit of Tansey and indicated he would welcome an investigation into the matter.
McInnes had said: “We’ve acted properly, professionally and with integrity throughout all this. I would welcome some sort of investigation because it’s unclear why he (Tansey) isn’t here and we feel he should be.”
Caley Thistle released a statement last night defending their actions.
The Inverness club’s statement read: “Caley Thistle are pleased to announce that midfield player Greg Tansey will be available for Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup tie at Motherwell and beyond.
“Aberdeen made their official approach to us on Saturday evening in relation to an offer for Greg Tansey. This was followed by a period of activity, culminating in their final offer on Monday afternoon.
“However, after meeting with Greg following the final offer we were delighted to be assured by him that he is happy in Inverness and that he had elected to remain at Caledonian Stadium and we thank Greg for his integrity, honesty and loyalty to the club.
“The club then informed Aberdeen that their final offer had not been successful. In the period after Aberdeen making official contact with us, we were, of course, determined to act in the best interest of Greg Tansey and our club. We are confident the outcome will be warmly received by our supporters.”
