Williams out to finish Caley Jags career on a high

Caley Thistle midfielder Danny Williams is keen to bring down the curtain on his Inverness career with a flourish by helping the Highlanders finish seventh.

Englishman Williams, along with fellow Caley Jags midfielder James Vincent, have both agreed pre-contract agreements with Premiership rivals Dundee, meaning the pair will join Paul Hartley’s side in the summer.

Since arriving on a free transfer from English non-league side Kendal Town in 2013, Williams has embraced the step up to professional football, making 104 appearances and playing a major role in helping Caley Jags lift the Scottish Cup and secure European football through a club record third-place finish in the Premiership last season.

Williams netted his first goal of the season in last week’s 3-1 win against Kilmarnock and, with just four games of the campaign remaining, starting with today’s trip to Partick Thistle, the 28-year-old is eager to sign off by playing his part in ensuring Inverness finish best of the rest.

Williams said: “I’m looking to finish off here on a high. I’m still an Inverness player for another month and it is really important I give my all.

“The supporters have been pretty understanding. Its part and parcel of football – players move on.

“They have supported me more than anything. I’ll leave with a lot of good memories. It has been a pretty successful three years since I’ve been here – a lot of highs.

“It has worked wonders for my game being at Inverness, coming to Scotland from non-league football as I did to a professional club like this.

“It has completely changed my game but I’m still trying to improve every day. I’ve got a big month left at Inverness and I’ll be putting in 100% towards helping the team finish as high as possible.

“It was just a point in my career where it was the best time to move on. Dundee came in and I spoke to the manager there. He really sold the club to me.”

Williams insists he will look back on his time in the Highlands with fondness and added: “Since I’ve been here we’ve finished in the top six every year bar this one and won a cup, so it has been a successful time.

“We set really high standards in previous seasons and want to improve every year but this year it has been difficult due to injuries – a lot of lads have been out for good parts of the season.

“We’re more or less safe in the league – there is one point to take yet – so the next step is to get clinch it and, on reflection, it will be a pretty successful season.”
