Free agent forward Scott Boden could become Richie Foran’s first signing as Caley Thistle manager.
The 26-year-old, who scored 13 goals in 45 appearances for League 2 side Newport County last season, is close to agreeing a three-year deal with Inverness.
The Exiles finished third bottom of England’s fourth tier last season and offered Boden a new contract at the end of the campaign, but the forward is keen for a fresh challenge.
Former Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher signed Boden for County from Halifax Town last season.
Foran is short on attacking options after Miles Storey declined a deal to join Inverness on a permanent basis and opted to sign a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen.
Boden began his career with Sheffield United but left the Blades without making a first-team appearance after a short spell in Finnish football with IFK Mariehamn.
He spent five years with Chesterfield before spells at Macclesfield and Halifax Town.
