Caley Thistle under-20 coach Duncan Shearer believes new manager Richie Foran will deliver a fitter, more determined and direct team next season.
Club captain Foran was promoted to the role of manager in the close season following John Hughes’ departure from Caledonian Stadium.
Shearer knows exactly what Foran will bring to his first managerial role, having been assisted by the Republic of Ireland midfielder last season for the youth team matches.
The former Dons attacker believes the club has been reinvigorated following Foran’s appointment and expects the feelgood factor at the club to show on the pitch next season.
He said: “At times last season Inverness overplayed. As nice as it was, if you look at the European teams at the moment they are all whipping crosses into the box. If I was a forward I would have found it frustrating playing under John.
“Mind you, I don’t think I could have played as a lone attacker as there is too much work involved.
“I am not sure what system Richie will adopt but the supporters will see a really fit and hard-working team as that is the way he played.
“Everyone is looking forward to a fresh start with a fresh manager.”
Speaking after the draw for the new-look IRN-BRU Cup had handed Caley Jags’ under-20s a home tie against Arbroath, Shearer reckons the Highlanders will be more disciplined, determined, fitter and potent under Foran.
Shearer said: “I have had a couple of meetings with Richie and they have been positive. He is going to bring a lot of discipline back, not that there was a lot missing, but different managers do different things.
“It is Richie’s first job and I can see the determination in his eyes.”
Foran has a started building his own squad with the recruitment of forward Scott Boden and midfielder Jake Mulraney, and is looking for three more new faces.
Shearer said: “Good recruitment will be key. You can make training enjoyable but if you do not sign players who will be good for your team you can find yourself in trouble.
“Richie knows that he is well-liked and will be given time. All the staff are behind him and want him to do well as he was a terrific captain for the club.
“I cannot say for certain that Richie will be the man for the club but give him two years and then decide where we are.
“Everyone from the players to John Hughes, knew that Richie would become the manager at some stage. He has been management material for a few years now. He is there now and we need to let him get on with it. The early signs are good.”
