Caley Thistle midfielder Billy King has challenged his teammates to rediscover their scoring touch against Alloa in the second round of the Betfred Cup tomorrow night.
Partick Thistle inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Richie Foran’s side on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season, with Chris Erskine and David Amoo getting on the scoresheet to give the Firhill team a deserved victory.
Caley Thistle’s sluggish performance yesterday came as a surprise to King after resounding 7-0 and 5-1 victories against Arbroath and Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup group stages.
He said: “It was a very disappointing result. We started the game all right and created a few chances but our heads went down when they scored. That is something we need to work on and keep the belief we can go on and win games, even if we go behind.
“We started the second half well but we just didn’t do enough to score. We didn’t take our chances and should have shot more often when we got into good positions.
“It was disappointing, but we have a game on Tuesday night we will look to win.
“In the games leading up to this one we have been brilliant and have scored lots of goals.
“We had a lot of possession against Partick but we didn’t offer as much of a threat as we would have liked.”
Despite Saturday’s defeat, King is enjoying every minute of his experience with Inverness after joining on a season-long loan from Hearts last month.
He said: “I am delighted with how it is going. I wanted to get out because I wasn’t going to get game time this season. That was made pretty clear.
“Robbie Neilson said I could go out on loan to Inverness after they made an inquiry about me. I knew if he was saying that then he was not too bothered about me staying or going.
“I spoke to Richie on the phone and I liked everything he said. I was delighted to get the move here and I have started every game which was what I wanted to do.
“When I came back to Hearts from Rangers in the summer I wanted to get a place in the Hearts team. That wasn’t to be, so now I am looking forward to the future and concentrating on doing well for Inverness.”
