Peterhead midfielder Jordon Brown has urged his team-mates to remember Dundee as they try for a Betfred Cup upset against Hearts at Balmoor tonight.
Ian Cathro’s Jambos make the north to face the Blue Toon following successive wins against Elgin City and East Fife and the Premiership club will be strong favourites against the League 2 Blue Toon.
Peterhead sprung a surprise last year when they beat Dundee 2-1 at Balmoor in the same competition and former Aberdeen midfielder Brown insists his side is ready for the challenge of trying to take another Premiership scalp tonight (8.0).
He said: “It’s a good game for us.
“We all enjoy the challenge of playing against the leading teams and Hearts certainly come into that category as they are one of the best clubs in the country.
“We want enjoy the occasion but we will only be able to do that if we produce a performance.
“The league is the be all and end all for us this season but the format of the Betfred Cup means we’ll be ready for the new league season.
“We’ve got nothing to lose against Hearts. We took on Dundee last year with the same approach and managed to beat them, so no one will be overawed at the thought of tackling Hearts.
“We fancy ourselves against any team at home and the cup was good to us last year. The win against Dundee helped us go through and if we could pull off another win tomorrow we’ll give ourselves a chance of maybe sneaking through to the next round again this year.”
Blue Toon manager Jim McInally has been busy rebuilding his squad following relegation from League 1 in the play-offs last season and despite Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at Dunfermline Brown is confident his club can challenge for promotion in the new campaign.
He said: “We played better than the scoreline suggests at Dunfermline on Saturday and we’re looking forward to it.
“The new players are settling in well and the mood in the camp is good.
“There’s been a big overhaul of the squad from last season but the players who have come in are of a good standard and we are looking forward to the new season with confidence.
“We’re a new team and we’re still gelling but I’m confident we will be ready for the first game of the season at Annan next week.”
