Peterhead manager Jim McInally has challenged his side to pile the pressure on Stirling Albion by beating them at Balmoor today.
The Blue Toon beat the Binos 1-0 in December to go top of League 2 on goal difference, two points clear of Dave Mackay’s side.
McInally’s side has been relentless since to the extent victory today will see the gap between the two clubs increase to 13 points.
The Blue Toon boast a 100% winning record in December and so far in January, winning all six matches in the division, and McInally is eager to continue the run this afternoon.
He said: “We’ve been on a great run but this is a massive game for us for a few reasons. We want to win to keep the pressure on Montrose at the top and we also have the chance to go 13 points clear of Stirling which would put pressure on them in trying to catch us.
“They’ll be looking at this game as their chance to reduce the gap to seven points but with the other teams playing in the league next week while we’re on Scottish Cup duty against Dumbarton, we really see this as a crucial weekend for the club.”
McInally is delighted to see his side firing on all cylinders and admits he is reluctant to change what has been a winning recipe in the last six weeks.
The transfer window closes on January 31 but the Peterhead manager is not anticipating major changes at Balmoor.
He said: “What’s really pleased me is the fact everyone is contributing. We don’t have a big squad but everyone who is coming off the bench, whether it be Nicky Riley, Russell McLean or Scott Brown, is playing their part.
“We don’t have a big squad here and I could do with defensive cover but I’m honest with players and I wouldn’t tell someone I’m signing them just so they can sit on the bench.
“If we do bring someone in they will have to be better than we have at the club.”
Rory McAllister, who has scored seven goals in his last seven matches, is doubtful after suffering a knock.
