Peterhead captain David McCracken wants his team-mates to experience the unforgettable feeling of achieving promotion.
Securing an immediate return to League 1 has been the aim for the Blue Toon this season and at the half-way stage of the season, they are well-placed to make that a reality.
McCracken was part of the Wycombe Wanderers side that earned promotion to English League 1 in 2009 and could achieve it for the second time nearly 10 years on.
He said: “There’s nothing better than getting promotions and winning cups. I’ve had it before and you never forget it – no matter what level you’re at. Every league is hard to get out of so if it’s something we go and achieve, it’ll show the hard work we put in.
“We’ve put together a decent run of form and have a fairly settled side. Anyone that comes in does a job and there’s not been a massive amount of disruption, which helps. Long may that continue.”
Clyde are the opponents this afternoon at Broadwood and they did Peterhead a favour last weekend, beating league leaders Montrose on their own patch.
A point separates Jim McInally’s side from top spot and they have three games in hand, with the first of their catch up games coming against Berwick Rangers on Tuesday night.
McCracken added: “Montrose slipping up last weekend helped us massively and we’ve got to capitalise on that. We’ll see where we’re at in the next 10-14 days and hopefully we’ll be in a better position.”
The Blue Toon came close to causing another Scottish Cup upset in midweek, with Dumbarton withstanding a late barrage at Balmoor to win their fourth round tie 3-2.
Skipper McCracken saw a late chance superbly saved by Scott Gallacher and believed his team acquitted themselves well against Championship opposition.
He said: “Because it was going so fast I couldn’t get over the top of it. We had numerous chances but couldn’t take them. We undid ourselves, conceding a couple of poor goals defensively and it gave us a massive hill to climb. We didn’t have enough quality at the end in the final third.
“We performed well over the course of the game. In the first half we got the ball down and played well. It’s unfortunate but we can concentrate on the league now, which is our main aim. It’s possibly a good thing as we’ve got a few games to catch up on and you don’t know what effect another cup game will have.”
