Peterhead’s title push took a dent with this narrow defeat but manager Jim McInally reckons the wind that buffeted Broadwood was the only winner.
In a game spoiled by the elements few chances were created and the defining moments saw a Jordon Brown “goal” disallowed just after the break while an effort by David Good-willie five minutes was allowed to stand despite looking suspiciously offside.
McInally said: “To be honest I did not think that either team would come up with a winner.
“It was farcical conditions – like Peterhead weather on a bad day – and the game should have ended as a draw. A draw would have been fair.
“We told the players to try and play a bit of football in the second half.
“We asked them to pass the ball against the strong wind and we did okay although we did not have a shot on target or work their goalkeeper enough.”
The Balmoor manager had no complaints about the effort put in during the match, adding: “The players gave everything they had but trying to play football in those conditions is not right.
“We have played in strong winds at Peterhead but it is not an easy decision for referees to stop the game once it has started.
“We had it in a home game against Stirling recently but this was worse.
“When the ball does not stay still for goal kicks or free kicks to be taken then you know that the game will suffer.
“The Clyde supporters will have enjoyed the result but it was not a game of football.
“With 15 minutes to go I could not see a goal coming and I am sure Clyde would have settled for a draw at that point in the match as well.
“They are fighting for their lives and got a lift from winning at Montrose last weekend.
“They have a top striker in their team and that ended up being the difference on the day.”
Peterhead slipped four points behind Montrose as a result but they have the chance to narrow the gap when they travel to take on seventh-placed Berwick Rangers tomorrow.
McInally said: “We have to hold our hands up and admit that we were nowhere near where we can be. Our players are adamant that Clyde’s goal was offside and our goal from Jordon wasn’t.
“Even David Goodwillie himself said to our goalkeeper that he was offside.
“But it has gone now and we need to move on to the next game.”
