Ryan Dow has not thought beyond the end of the season as he looks to anchor Peterhead’s League 2 promotion push.
Dow signed with the Blue Toon until the summer on Thursday night after finalising his release from Ross County and wants to walk away from his time at Balmoor with a winner’s medal.
He had previously been on loan with Peterhead from the Staggies but that deal was up at the start of the year. As Dow had already played for two clubs this season, he could only play for County or Peterhead and signing a short-term deal with the League 2 side made most sense.
Dow said: “Now this has been sorted out, I want to enjoy my football until the summer then see what will happen. I’ve not really thought beyond that – football will take care of itself and I’m looking forward to enjoying myself over the next few months.
“I want to play week in, week out, and hopefully get a medal at the end of the season. It’s been a hard time – it’s not nice when you’re not playing and it makes you feel scunnered with football. But because I’ve been playing, I’ve not minded travelling up and down the country and you forget how much you enjoy playing football. It’s been a frustrating time but hopefully that is behind me.”
Dow was signed by former County boss Jim McIntyre in September 2016 and spent two seasons with the Dingwall club, scoring once in 54 games. He found game-time hard to come by once McIntyre departed and he was replaced by Owen Coyle, as County limped towards relegation.
He played in the Betfred Cup this season and made two brief league appearances under Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson, before his loan switch to Peterhead. The overwhelming feeling of his time at the Global Energy Stadium is one of disappointment, following his frustrating period on the sidelines.
He added: “I was a bit disappointed in some of my performances and I didn’t feel as sharp as I should have been. But I felt I was back to being sharp again this season but it didn’t work out. That’s football.
“We had a discussion with all the travelling I was doing, to come back and train with County and then play in Peterhead or around the country, it was best to reach an agreement that saves me doing that. I’m glad it’s all sorted and it’s good to be playing in a winning team.”
