Peterhead open door for Aaron Norris to depart in search of first-team football

Peterhead are prepared to let Aaron Norris leave to get first-team football.

Manager Jim McInally is reluctant to see former Aberdeen youngster Norris leave Balmoor but the midfielder is not keen to be a bit-part player with the Blue Toon.

He joined his hometown club in 2017 after his release from the Dons but has struggled to nail down a first-team place.

He spent last season on loan at Highland League side Formartine United and had come back for the new season with hopes of becoming a regular in McInally’s side.

Norris has made four appearances to date this season but is keen to get more regular game-time away from Peterhead.

McInally said: “I would rather he stayed but he wants to play. We’ll let clubs know he’s available and if nothing comes up, we’ll be happy to keep him.

“He’s been playing Highland League and I think he’s just at the stage where he’s not wanting to sit on the bench and that’s fine. When he came on last week he had good energy and in a tough league, that’s what we need. I would be happy for him to be that player for us but he wants to go play. I can’t guarantee him a start.”

Back-up midfielder Ross Willox is also potentially heading out on loan, which could leave McInally light.

The Blue Toon are without a game this weekend, so will instead play a bounce game against Brechin City tomorrow night. Ryan Conroy, David Ferguson, Jamie Stevenson and Derek Lyle are all likely to get minutes.

Scott Hooper, who has been plagued by a troublesome ankle injury since the start of the season, is still out.
