Jason Brown wants Peterhead to become hard to beat again after a leaky spell at the back.
The Blue Toon have conceded four goals in two of their last three games, falling to defeats at Raith Rovers and Montrose in the process.
It goes in contrast to their defensive form heading into the new season, with two clean sheets against Dundee and Caley Thistle in the Betfred Cup and then on the opening day against League 1 title favourites Falkirk.
The defeat against Montrose gave the Gable Endies their first win of the season and kept Peterhead in eighth, with nine points from their eight games.
Brown said: “As a team in the last few weeks, we haven’t defended well as a unit. We need to work hard and get back to being hard to beat and hard to break down.
“We have had a few injuries but we have got the quality in the squad, so I don’t really see any issues with that.
“We’ve had a couple of bumps in the road but we feel it’s been a solid enough start. Every game in this league is tough and we’ve got to prepare for another one today.”
The Blue Toon welcome Airdrie to Balmoor this afternoon, with Ian Murray’s side fifth in the table. They have employed a hybrid of full-time and part-time players this season, with numerous players in the squad, such as Adam Eckersley, Nat Wedderburn, Dean Hawkshaw and Dale Carrick having top-flight experience.
Simon Ferry, Cammy Eadie and Jack Leitch will miss out through injury, while Mick Dunlop (hip) is a doubt. Derek Lyle should be back after recovering from an achilles problem.
Brown added: “There’s good competition for places and if you’re not a the races, some cam come in and take your place.
“We know they’re a good side and will be up for it. We’re just concentrating on what we can do and getting a positive result.”
