Jim McInally had no arguments after his side left Bayview pointless – but reckons he sees improvement in the Blue Toon.
A first-half Anton Dowds effort separated the sides in an encounter that suffered at the hands of Storm Dennis.
The conditions in the second half in particular were beyond tough, as Fife’s east coast was battered by strong wind and rain.
East Fife managed to weather the storm, and McInally reckons that was fair enough.
He said: “I thought that in the first half we played quite well and were a bit unfortunate to be one down.
“We’re disappointed with the goal. It was one through-ball and Greg Fleming makes his mind up for him (Dowds) by coming out when he probably should have stayed.
“I thought we played a lot of decent stuff and passed it well but in the second half we didn’t do enough to get anything out of the game.
“We never had a shot at goal but defended OK.
“For me it should have been a 0-0 but we lost again because we switched off to a through-ball.
“That’s not the first time it’s cost us but we didn’t do enough to rectify the situation and I can have no complaints about the result.”
Both sides had early chances to open the scoring, Scott Agnew and Jack Leitch both passing up decent opportunities.
The game hit a bit of a lull and it was going to take some quality to open it up.
That came from Agnew whose terrific through-ball sliced open the Peterhead defence and found Dowds.
The striker had plenty of work still to do but managed to slide his finish under Fleming.
Peterhead responded well to going behind with Gary Fraser and Derek Lyle both unlucky not to level things up.
It should have been 2-0 when Ryan Wallace played in Danny Denholm but the winger failed to hit the target.
It was largely one-way traffic as Peterhead struggled to make inroads into the Fife box.
The Blue Toon had Fleming to thank when he got up brilliantly to tip Agnew’s free-kick over the bar.
The Methil men stayed on the front foot with on-loan Hearts winger Callumn Morrison causing problems in the closing stages.
Blue Toon winger Alan Cook wants his side to take full advantage of a hectic run of games coming up.
Peterhead host Airdrieonians next Saturday before welcoming Forfar on the Tuesday and then facing Stranraer at the weekend.
With Forfar and Stranraer occupying the bottom-two places in the league, Cook reckons the games present the perfect opportunity for Peterhead to kick some clear daylight between themselves and those below them.
“We want to make the most of it against the teams we’re playing,” said Cook.
“We play Forfar and Stranraer and those are games that we either go and win and push up the league or maybe drop points and look down the league.
“So it’s up to us, the ball is in our court to go and do it.”
