Peterhead manager Jim McInally says the League Cup could have a big impact on their season as they look increase hopes of progression from Group C.
The Blue Toon host Brechin City at Balmoor tonight looking to make it two wins out of two and give themselves a chance of winning the section or being one of the four best runners-up to reach the last-16.
Qualifying from a group containing Dundee United and St Johnstone would be a terrific achievement, while in these times of no crowds the financial benefits of progressing would also be welcomed by Peterhead.
It is understood reaching the last-16 is worth around £40,000 in prize money.
McInally said: “We need to have the mentality that if we can win this game then we’ve given ourselves a chance to qualify.
“With the money that is available in the League Cup, we might need to prioritise it a bit because the money for doing well could go a long way to helping us get through the season, so that makes it a big game for us as well.
“But it’s a massive game without that just because of the fact, if we can go to six points with two games left, you just never know what can happen.
“It would be some achievement if we could get out of this group with St Johnstone and Dundee United in it.”
Peterhead beat Dundee United 1-0 on Saturday and McInally added: “We’ll give Brechin the same respect as we did Dundee United.
“I saw Brechin last week and they could have scored six goals against Dundee United, they’re good going forward.
“We know exactly what to expect and if we can get any sort of result, ugly or by any means, to get us to six points it would be great.”
