Peterhead made it two wins from two in Group C of the League Cup by beating Brechin City at Balmoor.
Three goals inside the first 25 minutes did the damage for the Blue Toon.
With fixtures against Kelty Hearts and St Johnstone to come, they have a shot at progression to the last 16.
Peterhead manager Jim McInally said: “I thought we were excellent in the first half. We started where we finished on Saturday against Dundee United.
“I don’t think 3-0 flattered us at half-time and, then Brechin scored at the start of the second half and you think ‘here we go’, but we had good possession and created some more chances.
“I’m just delighted because we didn’t win two games on the bounce often last season and, in a group that we didn’t seem to have an earthly in, if we can get one more result somewhere we might get through, which is important.”
The Buchan side started purposefully, despite losing Ben Armour to injury in the early stages, and took the lead on 12 minutes.
Simon Ferry won possession in midfield and found Isaac Layne and as Brechin’s defenders backed off he lashed a fierce strike into the top right corner from 20 yards.
Visiting goalkeeper Pat O’Neil denied Layne four minutes later, but from the corner that followed Layne flicked Ryan Conroy’s inswinging delivery from the right into the net.
By the 24th minute a third Peterhead goal arrived and it was a cracker. Steven Boyd found space 25 yards out and curled a terrific shot into the top right corner.
After that Brechin did manage to register an effort, with Martin Scott’s low strike drifting just wide.
But it was a dominant first half display with their high tempo, high pressing game not allowing Brechin to settle and their incisive passing cutting the Angus side open on numerous occasions.
However, Brechin pulled a goal back just 25 seconds into the second half.
There appeared to be little danger, but half-time sub Kieran Inglis charged down Bailey’s attempted clearance with his first touch and then prodded the loose ball beyond goalkeeper Josh Rae from close range.
Layne could have completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute after being slipped in by Andrew McCarthy, but he cracked a shot off the right post.
A next goal was always going to be important and McCarthy went close to getting it with a snapshot that O’Neil did well to hold.
Afterwards, Derek Lyle couldn’t quite direct Derryn Kesson’s cross on target as Peterhead saw the game out.
