The 54-year-old had previous managerial stints with Elgin City and Montrose, leaving the latter in 2007 and subsequently moving out to America.
His playing career started with the Dons, before moving to Rangers in 1991. Robertson also turned out for Leeds United and Montrose, as well as winning three caps for his country.
