Peterhead manager Jim McInally hopes a change of focus can bring a change of fortune for his side this weekend.
The Blue Toon started the season in tremendous form, beating promotion favourites Dunfermline and shocking Championship side Falkirk in the Petrofac Training Cup in August. But the form has dipped in September with McInally’s team struggling through a six-game run without a win.
With Peterhead turning their attention to the cup today against Stenhousemuir at Balmoor in the quarter-finals of the Petrofac competition, McInally hopes a break from the league can galvanise the Buchan side.
He said: “We’ve lost some soft goals in the league but we’re creating chances and if we can tighten up a bit and take our chances at the other end we’ll soon get back to winning ways.
“If we were winning games 3-2 I wouldn’t have a problem with us playing in an open and attacking style but that’s not been happening. There’s been five draws in the league and that’s hurt us.
“As far as the league goes maybe I have to sacrifice some of our attacking intent and make us tougher to break down in midfield but this is a cup tie, so we’ve got to look at winning.
“We’re playing in bits and pieces and I’d like to see us show some more control in longer spells. We will turn the corner but it’s up to me to ensure I get the team right.”
