Peterhead defender Ryan Strachan believes his club can win promotion to the Championship this season.
The Blue Toon’s unbeaten league run now stands at 17 matches and Strachan knows momentum is with his side as they enter the crucial run-in.
He said: “Realistically we will be in the play-offs. I know it’s mathematically possible for us to be caught but, with the best will in the world, it’s not going to happen.
“The key word for us this year has been momentum. We feel we have it and we are looking forward to the play-offs with confidence.
“Given the way we are playing now we fancy our chances of going up. We are going to be a tough team to beat across two legs and our goal is to win promotion. If we don’t do it we will still have had a good campaign, but I believe we will go up this season.”
Strachan’s confidence is understandable given the form of his side. The long run has taken the club from the lower half of League 1 to second place, 11 points behind leaders Dunfermline.
The Blue Toon defender added: “It is a great run and our confidence is sky high. We are now approaching games not just with confidence but also expecting to win.
“We didn’t start the season too well but we’ve really hit our stride in the second half of the season and it’s unfortunate for us Dunfermline have been so good as well.
“We’ve been unlucky and, with them having a comfortable lead, it looks like we will be left to wonder what might have been had we not had that poor run in September and October.
“But we can’t control what Dunfermline do. We’ve kept our focus on what we have to do, which is win games, and right now this is a great club to be part of. We’re in a great position in the league and we’ve got the Petrofac Training Cup final against Rangers next month.
“The final has not been mentioned at all, though. The only discussion among the players has been about how many tickets we all need for family and friends.
“It’ll be a great occasion but right now it it’s not something we can think about when there are important league games to be played.”
