Many people questioned Jordon Brown’s decision to drop to the fourth tier of Scottish football following his release from Aberdeen in 2013.
But the midfielder hopes he can continue his upward career trajectory by helping the Blue Toon win promotion for the second time in three years this season.
Jim McInally’s side are four games away from promotion to the Championship as they embark on the end of season play-offs, and Brown is already dreaming of who he could be facing come August.
The 23 year-old said: “When I left Aberdeen and joined Peterhead a few people asked me why I was going to Balmoor as I’d be playing in the bottom league in the SPFL but we’ve won promotion, solidified our place in League 1 and are now within touching distance of promotion again.
“With the players we’ve got here I believe we are good enough to go up and the manager has made the team stronger every year. If we were a Championship team that would help him attract an even better standard of player.
“It would be massive for the club to go up to the Championship. There could be some pretty big teams in there next season such as Dundee United, Hibs, Falkirk and Raith Rovers depending on how the season finishes and for us to go up against clubs like that on a weekly basis would be fantastic.”
The Championship is tantalisingly close for Peterhead yet so far with the play-off semi-final against Ayr United tonight looming large.
There has been little between the sides in League 1 this term with just two points separating the teams in the final table and Brown expects a tense and fraught first leg at Balmoor tonight.
The Blue Toon have struggled for momentum in the end of the campaign, losing their last six matches, but Brown insists confidence is not in short supply at his club.
He said: “We can’t wait for the game and we see the play-offs as a fresh start for us.”
“We talked about it after the Dunfermline game on Saturday and we are expecting the first leg at Balmoor to be a cautious one.
“Ayr will be confident after beating us 4-0 here a week ago but that result happened because Rory McAllister received an early red card.
“But we have reason to be confident too. We’ve had a good season, reached a cup final and we are at home. We’ve earned the right to be in this position and both teams will show the other respect.”
