Ross County manager Owen Coyle has resigned.
The Staggies are bottom of the table with 21 points from 28 matches and are due to take on second bottom Partick Thistle on Saturday.
Coyle was appointed County manager in September last year following the departure of Jim McIntyre.
A statement from the club read: “Ross County Football Club would like to announce that First Team Manager, Owen Coyle, has resigned from his post. He and Assistant Manager, Sandy Stewart, have left the club with immediate effect.”
Owen Coyle said: “Myself and the Chairman had a chat on Monday and after some reflective thought I felt for the good of Ross County – and the challenging situation with my family being in England – it was in everyone’s best interests for me to offer my resignation, which the Chairman duly accepted.”
Speaking about Coyle’s resignation, chairman Roy MacGregor said: “We thank Owen and Sandy for their time at Ross County Football Club and wish them well for the future.”
Coyle was appointed as Ross County manager on September 28, 2017 – only four days after Jim McIntyre had been sacked.
He made an immediate impact guiding the Staggies to a 2-0 win at Kilmarnock in his first game in charge.
He claimed 10 points from a possible 18 in his first six games in charge as County moved up to eighth position.
The Staggies then endured a miserable 13-game stretch without a victory, during which time they were also dumped out of the Scottish Cup after a 1-0 loss at Kilmarnock.
Coyle’s side ended their wait for a win in emphatic style with a 4-1 victory at Dundee on February 3 before playing out a 1-1 draw at home against in-form Hearts.
But the abject display in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at St Johnstone proved to be Coyle’s last game in the Ross County dugout with his shock departure announced last night.
