Ross County were swept aside by an impressive Rangers as doubles from Ryan Jack and Alfredo Morelos secured a 4-0 win at Victoria Park.
The Staggies hit the post through Ross Draper but it was a rare highlight in what was strong display from Steven Gerrard’s side in the Highlands.
Ross County made four changes to the side which drew with Hibernian on Saturday with Ross Stewart, who missed the game at Easter Road due to a foot injury, recalled along with Tom Grivosti, Brian Graham and Joe Chalmers. Michael Gardyne, Billy Mckay, Keith Watson and Ewen Henderson dropped to the bench.
Rangers made five changes following their 2-1 win against Motherwell at Ibrox on Sunday.
Allan McGregor and Brandon Barker missed out due to injury as Rangers boss Steven Gerrard made five changes to his side.
Greg Stewart, Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe dropped to the bench with Wes Foderingham, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Sheyi Ojo and Alfredo Morelos the players who came into the starting 11.
Ojo and Morelos were heavily involved in Rangers’ attacking play in the opening stages with Ojo hitting the post in the fourth minute and the early pressure of the visitors eventually brought the opener in the 21st minute when Ojo crossed for Morelos to score from close range.
Two goals from Ryan Jack then put paid to County getting back into the game.
The former Aberdeen captain’s first was a low curling effort from the edge of the box after a Liam Fontaine clearance had fallen at his feet. The second seven minutes from the break was a rising shot from the same distance to round off a sweeping team move.
Aribo struck the post for Rangers in the second half but Gerrard’s side did add to their tally when Morelos ran on to Aribo’s pass to fire home the fourth.
