Can you score too early? The match between Hamilton and Ross County was barely a minute old when the visitors got on the scoresheet and it looked to set up the Staggies for a first win in six, but after going 2-1 down another point on the road isn’t to be sniffed at.
Billy Mckay’s early goal rocked Hamilton for most of the first half but goalscoring chances were hard to come by from either side in an attritional encounter that was being edged by Ross County.
Unfortunately they couldn’t capitalise on that before Lewis Smith got a lucky deflection when turning inside Richard Foster to get the equaliser seven minutes into the second half.
Accies turned the match on its head within 12 minutes of that with a crisp strike by George Oakley from outside the box, but it was a disappointing goal to lose.
After a cleared header the defence momentarily went to sleep and were dragged out of position, so when the ball arrived to Oakley he found himself in between a couple of defenders who couldn’t close him down in time.
County rescued a point with another late goal, which was well worked through a phase of patient passing before a big switch by Josh Mullin got Brian Graham and Michael Gardyne involved. Graham will be desperate to start more matches but he is showing how effective he can be late in matches.
