Ross County winger Josh Mullin feels the Staggies can approach Saturday’s game against Kilmarnock with a burden lifted from their shoulders after ending their nine-match winless streak.
County defeated Hibernian 2-1 in their last outing at Victoria Park last Wednesday, to end a poor run which had seen them fail to win since a triumph over Motherwell on September 21.
With the Staggies out of action at the weekend, their attention now turns to the visit of Killie on Saturday.
With the Staggies now afforded a five-point gap above the bottom, Mullin feels they will go into the game buoyed by their timely lift.
Mullin said: “We won’t get carried away, it’s just one result, but it was a big result going into the weekend because we were not playing. We’re delighted in the dressing room.
“It was a massive result. After the St Mirren game, we were disappointed because we felt we were on top, then we conceded a poor goal at half time and went on to lose the game.
“We were trying to put that right, but our next game was against Celtic.
“We knew that was going to be tough, we didn’t get anything from that, so against Hibs it was about trying to right the wrongs so to speak and getting a performance from everyone. I thought we got that last Wednesday.
“It was a monkey off our backs, after nine games without a win.”
Although Killie are fifth in the table, the two sides shared a 0-0 draw when the two sides met at Rugby Park in September, and Mullin insists the Dingwall men have nothing to fear.
The 27-year-old added:”We’ve got another home game next, we went down to Kilmarnock and we matched them for 90 minutes when it finished 0-0.
“We’ll play them at home next, and we will look to go into that game on a positive, on a high after Wednesday’s result.”
Mullin provided the assist for the first of Ross Stewart’s two goals which made the difference against Hibs, taking the forward’s tally for 11 to the campaign.
Mullin hailed the work ethic of the 23-year-old, whose form in his debut Premiership campaign has seen him linked with English Championship clubs Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.
Mullin added: “He’s popping up everywhere, and that’s credit to him.
“He’s working hard in training and he’s getting the rewards out on the pitch.
“He popped up with two again on Wednesday, so as long as he keeps scoring I’m sure everyone will be delighted for him.
“It doesn’t surprise me there is speculation, because he’s scoring goals at every level he seems to be playing at.
“That’s credit to himself with the hard work he’s putting in.
“Nobody knows if it’s just rumours or not, but nobody is surprised because he’s scoring goals at this level and he’s a young boy, so credit to him.”
