Ross County co-manager Steven Ferguson insists the Staggies will not be rushed into making January signings to make up the numbers.
Although County have yet to make any fresh additions during the transfer window so far, Ferguson revealed he and fellow co-manager Stuart Kettlewell have already inquired about the availability of potential targets.
The Staggies earlier this week cut short Irish winger Simon Power’s loan spell from Norwich City, while fellow wide options Michael Gardyne and Ross Stewart face lengthy injury absences.
Ferguson says the attacking wide area is one of several positions the Staggies are considering bolstering, and he said: “People are not stupid, they will look at that and see it’s an area where we are short.
“We do have players who could play in that area, and they will definitely be considered, but if something came up that we felt was going to strengthen the group, we would definitely look at it.
“It’s not just in that area, there are a number of different areas as well.
“There are targets we like, players we would like to bring to the club, and we have asked the question.
“At the moment there is nothing that close that we would speak about it to other people – but we won’t fall into the trap of bringing people in for the sake of it.”
Power’s season-long loan spell from English Premier League side Norwich was ended following a frustrating spell at Dingwall, with a seven-minute substitute appearance against Aberdeen in August his only Premiership action following three Betfred Cup outings.
Ferguson says Power’s failure to settle in the Highlands was a factor in the 21-year-old not fulfilling the potential that followed his move last summer.
Ferguson added: “Simon was a good young player, but it didn’t quite work out.
“He didn’t quite settle. It’s not always just about 3pm on a Saturday – there’s a lot more that goes on throughout the week in people’s lives.
“He never quite had the game time he wanted and he probably never quite settled in the area, it would be fair to say.
“Both parties together felt that for his development, it would be best he went back to Norwich.”
Ferguson confirmed there has been no contact regarding forward Brian Graham, who is reportedly a target for Championship side Partick Thistle.
He added: “It would not surprise me if there were other clubs looking at players that maybe haven’t had the game time they were expecting, and asked the question.
“Brian, for instance, is a player I would imagine a number of clubs would want to get a hold of.
“Until somebody tells us what they would like to happen, or make a bid, it can only ever be rumour or hearsay. At the moment there is nothing.”
