Antonio Reguero is determined to get his career back on track with Ross County following a wasted year at Kilmarnock.
The Spanish goalkeeper left Caley Thistle last summer to join Killie but failed to make a single appearance for the Ayrshire side last season.
When the chance to return to the Highlands came his way the 32-year-old grabbed it and is hoping to relaunch his career in the north again with the Staggies.
He said: “My biggest aim at Ross County is just to get games because last year I didn’t play at all – not a single game.
“I was frustrated. I wanted to show my skills and they never gave me a chance, so I’m really happy to be at this club.
“When you go to play for any team, you expect to be competing for places, but you also expect to be given at least a chance.
“Even in the cups at Kilmarnock, the manager never gave me the opportunity to compete for the number one jersey.
“But that’s football. Our position as goalkeepers is sometimes quite hard. I didn’t complain. I’ve played quite a lot of games in my career.
“It was a pity last year but that’s life and football.”
Reguero was a favourite with the Caley Jags support during his season at Caledonian Stadium but he is bracing himself for a less than glowing welcome from his former club now he has joined their rivals across the Kessock Bridge.
He knows the mood among his once adoring support will have changed drastically following his move to Dingwall.
He said: “I don’t know how the Caley Thistle supporters will react. It’s football. Everyone understands that this kind of situation arises.
“I always will be grateful to Inverness for the chance to play in Scotland but I’m a Ross County player now. I’m going to fight and play for them.
“Obviously, the atmos-phere in the derbies was amazing when I was first up here. I was lucky enough to play in every one of them that season. We lost just once – here at Dingwall on the last day of the season.”
