Ross County: Boyce aim to keep goals coming

Ross County forward Liam Boyce is determined to carry his burst of goalscoring momentum into the new season.

The Northern Irishman joined the Staggies from Cliftonville last month but his pre-season campaign was interrupted by a knee injury which forced him to miss the first three games.

Having found the target moments into his first County appearance against Clachnacuddin on Tuesday, Boyce followed up by scoring an excellent goal four minutes after taking to the field against Nairn County on Saturday in the 1-1 draw at Station Park.

The 23-year-old’s confidence is on the rise ahead of his side’s trip to Holland this week.

Boyce said: “If I had gone a couple of games without scoring it would have been a dry spell and I would have started to think about it. But it was just good to get on and score again within a couple of minutes on Tuesday, and then come on again and score on Saturday, just to get me going.

“I played an under-20s game against Fort William and scored as well, so, hopefully, the run keeps going next week against Twente.

“I was injured for the first couple of games but it’s all about minutes at this time of the season. However, it’s good to get a couple of goals as well.”

The attacker, who joined the Victoria Park club following two prolific spells at Cliftonville either side of an unsuccessful stint with German side Werder Bremen, was frustrated by his injury but said: “I only had two full days training and my knee started stiffening up. It was unfortunate having to sit out the first few games but I think it made me more hungry and made me want to get back playing games, so I was more motivated to start scoring goals when I came back.

“I can’t wait to go to Holland. We’ve already gelled well on the training ground. We’ve got a few Dutch players, so it’ll only get better with a week together in Holland.”
