Ross County: Brittain has high hopes for new look side

Ross County captain Richard Brittain believes the new-look Staggies now pose the greatest attacking threat he has seen in his six years at Victoria Park.

Forward Jake Jervis netted on his debut for the Dingwall side in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by St Johnstone, while Graham Carey and Yoann Arquin impressed in wide positions.

With Liam Boyce and Melvin de Leeuw having to be content with places on the bench, Brittain believes manager Derek Adams is spoiled for attacking choice.

Brittain said: “There was a lot to be positive about from Sunday. We looked very dangerous going forward and, given the players we’ve got at the club now, the attacking threat is as strong as it’s been.

“Of course our aim is to score more goals. All our forwards scored in pre-season, as did nearly all our midfielders.

“I thought the combinations we showed in midfield and the amount of possession we had was another positive. These are all things we’ve been working on in pre-season and hopefully we can carry them on in the games ahead.”

County travel to Firhill to take on Partick Thistle tonight, with the Dingwall men seeking their first points of the Premiership campaign.

The Staggies have signed 10 players, while the Jags have added just Ryan Stevenson, Abdul Osman and Danny Seaborne to their squad.

Brittain is well aware of the Glasgow side’s strengths but reckons the timing of the match is perfect as County aim to bounce back from defeat.

Brittain added: “After losing a game we want another to come around quickly. I don’t know why there’s a midweek game scheduled for the first week of the season but we’re just grateful there is and, hopefully, we can pick up our first points of the season.

“Firhill has been a good ground for us but it’s going to be a really difficult game because Partick have signed some decent players.

“Ryan Stevenson is a fantastic signing. He’s showed what he can do at the highest level in Scotland. He proved with Hearts last year he’s a major goal threat, while Abdul Osman was at Gretna when I played against him, and Kallum Higginbotham is another who always does well against us.

“There are several players we need to keep an eye on. They’ve got an excellent squad, so we’ll need to be on our mettle.”
