Ross County defender Jordi Balk has told his team they must take their chances to recover from their poor start to the campaign.
The Staggies fell to their third successive defeat of the Premiership season with a 2-1 loss against Kilmarnock on Saturday.
The Dutchman believes the Staggies can take encouragement from aspects of their performance, but called on the Dingwall side to be more ruthless in both attack and defence.
Balk said: “It was not the right result but in the first 35 minutes we played very well. We had a lot of chances but we didn’t score and one cross to the far post, one header and it was 1-0. At half-time we were told to press higher and move the ball faster. After we went two goals down, we did everything to get back into the match but it was not enough.
“We have trained hard, and if we continue to do that in the coming weeks we can make some steps forward. We will give it our best, but we have to work hard at it. We have to win these games, we need to make more chances and score them, but also keep clean sheets.
“We have to work harder and do better, but the first 35 minutes went very well and we have to develop that.”
The 20-year-old made his debut at right back in the defeat against Killie, and although not his preferred position, Balk believes he can offer more.
He added: “I can play as a right back, however my preferred position is centre back or defensive midfielder.
“The experience and atmosphere was fantastic, but I’m a winner. I want to win games and this was not good enough.
“I did well but I can do a lot better. Next week we will train harder, and in the future I hope to play more games and show a better Jordi. It was fine, but it wasn’t the best performance from me.”
