Former Ross County manager Derek Adams has returned to previous club Morecambe for a third stint in charge.

Adams had been out of work since leaving the Staggies in February, just 79 days after leaving Morecambe for what was also his third spell in charge at Victoria Park.

Although Adams won two of his first three games in charge at County, a subsequent haul of just two draws from nine matches led to him resigning in the wake of a 5-0 reverse away to Motherwell.

The Shrimps went on to finish 15th in English League Two last season but were left without a manager when Adams’ replacement Ged Brannan left to become Accrington Stanley’s assistant boss.

Morecambe have now opted to turn back to Adams, who guided them to promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2021.

In a Morecambe club statement, Adams said: “I’m looking forward to it. Morecambe FC is a club I know well from my previous two spells at the football club, and I am looking forward to getting started.

“There is a lot of work to be done over the transfer window to get ready for the start of the new season, and I know the board of directors were looking for a manager who knows the football club and how it works.

“I’m delighted to come back and try and help the football club move forward again. This will come not only through myself, my staff, and the players, but the supporters of the football club as well who have been through a really difficult period.”
