Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox knows his history and has his sights on sending Celtic packing in the semi-finals of a cup competition again.
In 2010 the then First Division Staggies caused one of great upsets by knocking Neil Lennon’s Hoops out of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 last four win at Hampden.
County were beaten 3-0 by Dundee United in the final of the Scottish Cup and will be the underdogs again after yesterday being drawn against the champions in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
Celtic will be fancied retain the trophy they won last season after the final victory against Dundee United in March and defeated the Staggies 4-1 in the Premiership meeting in Dingwall on Sunday.
But Fox is targeting a repeat of that semi-final triumph, although accepts the draw was tough on his side, with Hibernian paired with St Johnstone in the other match.
Fox, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, said: “It’s a difficult draw. I’m not going to lie, it’s not the draw we wanted, but they’re there to be beaten.
“If we’re going to win it, we’re going to have to beat the best teams.
“Let’s hope history can repeat itself. A semi-final is a big match, but it’s two teams.
“It’s up to us to perform. It can be done, and we’ll be going in there with that plan. Hopefully we’ve got a final to look forward to.
“There have been a few different winners of trophies. It would be nice to see Ross County up there as well.
“St Johnstone have done it, while Dundee United have been in a few finals as well.
“Other than Celtic the gap is pretty small between the teams in the Premiership, so it’s just about trying to knock them out, and then it’s up for grabs.”
Fox reckons Jim McIntyre’s, fifth in the Premiership, will be well prepared and the 28-year-old added: “The manager and Billy Dodds will have a plan for us, and it’s about putting that plan into play.
“Everything is going well. The way we have performed shows the manager has worked wonders, backed up by the chairman who gave them what they needed.
“It’s a good club to be at right now and I’m enjoying it. The semi-final is a while away yet, but it’s something to look forward to.”
