Dougie Imrie could be set for a return to the Highlands with Ross County.
The 30-year-old, who scored 11 goals for Morton this season, is a free agent after his contract with Morton expired. Morton were relegated to League 1.
Imrie had been offered a new deal by Kenny Shiels, who then resigned and, with Morton yet to appoint a replacement, County manager Derek Adams is weighing up whether to make an offer for Imrie.
Adams expects to make as many as seven new signings for the Scottish Premiership club this summer and Imrie, who played for Caley Thistle, Hamilton and St Mirren in the SPL, has emerged as a potential target.
Imrie has no idea what the future holds following Shiels’s departure from Cappielow.
He said: “The manager had spoken to me about signing and I said I would like to stay but I asked him to give me time to think about it. But he’s not here any more, so I don’t know what’s going to happen and I think all the other players will be in the same position.
“There are only four players under contract and I’m sure there will be other managers looking to quickly snap up players they think could do a job for them next season.”
Adams continues to make room for reinforcements in his squad with Alex Cooper and Gary Glen joining goalkeeper Michael Fraser in being released from the club.
Adams admits he is unable to offer the players regular first-team football and says there will be more players leaving the club as he reshapes his squad for next season’s Scottish Premiership campaign.
He said: “Gary and Alex made good contributions to the first team and we wish them well. They need regular matches and that is something I wasn’t in a position to offer.
“There will be more to follow and we’re in the process of speaking to all of the players who will and will not be offered contracts.”
