Ross County fans who tried to get the train from Inverness to Glasgow were left bitterly disappointed after missing “one of the biggest results in Ross County’s history”.
The snow and wind prevented the trains from running in time to let fans see Ross County beat Celtic 3-1 in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden.
Calum Ross, Staggies fan and chief reporter for the Press and Journal, said: “You can’t blame ScotRail for the weather.”
But he added that the replacement buses went to Edinburgh, with none going direct to Glasgow.
He said: “I was advised to get the second train, but it was delayed so much that I missed the connection to Glasgow.
“There was no way Ross County fans could get the train from Inverness to Glasgow in time for the game.
“I was faced with the choice, they told me the train would get in to Glasgow at 3.10pm, the match started at 3pm and it would still have taken me at least half an hour to get to the football ground. I gave up.
“What makes it worse is the fact that it was one of the biggest results in Ross County’s history and I missed it because I couldn’t get the train.”
