Ross County manager Owen Coyle believes his side’s best has still to come as the Staggies approach the business end of the season.
County have the opportunity to move off the bottom of the table with if they defeat St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park today, provided there is a winner in Hamilton Accies’ game against Partick Thistle.
Following a poor run of form, Coyle has overseen an improvement in the last two matches as County have taken four points from games against Dundee and Hearts.
The Staggies boss has been encouraged, but reckons there is further improvement still to be made by his side.
He said: “As of late, we have been delivering on the field and we need to produce that consistency to get that run together.
“Getting off bottom place isn’t the focus for me. The focus is making sure every one of these players delivers on the field. Whatever happens with results elsewhere, will happen.
“We have to take care of our business. The important time to string together a run of form is the business end of the season.
“We’ve always believed when we had players back from injury and back to full fitness we were going to be a decent team.
“We’ve shown signs of that, but we still not anywhere near where we’d like to be. We have to continue that little bit of progress we’ve made, knowing there is more to come.”
Estonian midfielder Mattias Kait has been key to County’s resurgence but he could miss the trip to Perth with the back injury which forced the on-loan Fulham player off in last week’s 1-1 draw with Hearts.
Coyle is content with the cover available, and added: “It was partly precautionary because he’d hurt his back at Fulham and we had to be very wary of that, as we always are. Kevin Bain and the medical staff do a tremendous job in that respect.
“But Mattias has progressed very well this week. He has certainly shown he is going to be a very good player. He certainly adds to the quality we have in that midfield area and, all of a sudden, we have real competition for places.
“Greg Tansey is fit again, Jamie Lindsay is coming back and we have big Ross Draper there too. That’s what we want. We want selection headaches because everyone is playing well, rather than them being out of sorts.”
