Scotland fans are ready to welcome a new era of optimism after Steve Clarke was appointed the men’s national team boss.
The national side is down a hole after being thrashed 3-0 by Kazakhstan in March in our opening Euro 2020 qualifier.
An uninspiring 2-0 win in San Marino was not enough to save Alex McLeish’s job but truth be told, most supporters did not want the former Aberdeen defender to begin with.
Clarke’s managerial stock on the other hand is at an all-time high. Having just led Kilmarnock to their highest finish since 1966, it’s easy to forget that the team were sitting at the foot of the Scottish Premiership when he took over in October 2017.
Leading the Ayrshire club back into Europe was an incredible feat and Scottish fans online seem confident that Clarke can perform similar miracles with the national side.

“The best thing we can do is start winning matches and try to get a smile back on the faces of the Tartan Army.”

With a qualifying double-header against Cyprus and Belgium just a little over two weeks away, Clarke will not have much time to prepare for his first match.
The almost unanimous support for his appointment however will be a huge boost and if the players are as excited as the fans and pundits seem to be, there’s every reason to believe that Clarke will be the man to finally lead the men’s national side back to a major tournament.
