With only three McBookie.com Premier League games surviving the horrendous weekend weather, Culter consolidated their second place position in the table.
Their 8-0 victory at home to Colony Park also gave the club’s goal difference a healthy boost, with seven of those goals coming in the second half against opponents who had to play three quarters of the game with 10 men – with Colony skipper Greg Dorrat sent off for a last man challenge.
Cammy Fraser’s sixth-minute strike for Culter was the only first half goal action, but after the interval, the counters piled up. Fraser added another three, substitute Nikolas Wozniak fired a double, and Ross Clark and Ryan Smart were also on target.
Culter manager Lee Youngson was understandably satisfied with the outcome, and said: “I was pleased with the performance overall.
“I felt we started well, and deserved to be a few ahead prior to the sending off.
“From that point, which was around midway through the first half, the game slowed down for both teams, so the message at half time was clear – speed things up, don’t let Colony Park dictate the intensity of the game and I felt we done that well in the second half.
‘Overall we’re satisfied’
“Some of the goals we scored were excellent, Cammy had a good game and took his tally to 18 for the season.
“Ross, Smarty, Richie Petrie, Ben McGregor and Wozzy when he came on were other standouts, but, in truth, we didn’t have a bad performer today – everyone played well.
“Craig Macaskill made his debut for the club from the bench after coming in on loan from Banks o’ Dee and he showed what he can offer, which was pleasing.
“Overall, we’re satisfied as it’s another three points.
“It’s been a strong start to the season, 17 wins from 20 games, with only the one defeat. However, my focus is on the two draws and one defeat not the 17 wins – that shows there’s room for improvement.
“The nice part of the season is coming to an end. Flat pitches and nice weather makes for a good game, but November to February football at this level is a battle, and for that the standards need to go up again and the players know that.
“This weekend we go to Glenury Park to play Stonehaven. We know all too well how tough it is to play there, so we will need to be at our best and that’s the aim.”
