One goal decided an even game as Kintore United FC won 4-3 at home to Huntly FC in the U16 C on Saturday.
Kintore United FC’s assistant coach Kevin Watt said: “It was our first home game of the season, the first game we’ve had in five weeks, and for long spells it looked like it.
“We did have a few players out or carrying knocks but were 3-0 up and comfortable early on.
“Then for some reason, our midfield decided to stop playing.
“We got to half-time and swapped a few things around, but it didn’t seem to make much difference; if anything, we were worse.
“Huntly got a goal back, and our lads still didn’t take the hint and allowed Huntly to soon pull level.
“Credit to our lads, though, as they dug in thereafter and got the winner with also what appeared to be an excellent well worked team goal chopped off for a questionable off-side late on, too; it was probably the best goal of the game, so that was frustrating.
“Although it was a close result, I think we made it harder for ourselves through missed chances and perhaps complacency, which we warned them against.
“Angus Watt scored all four and finished the one that was disallowed, too, so a great performance from him.
“Huntly are due to take points off of someone soon, and we are just happy it wasn’t us.”
