Ian Poulter came into this weekend’s action regarded as Team Europe’s ‘Mr Ryder Cup’, however he was unable to live up to that billing yesterday, with him and home favourite Stephen Gallacher losing 5&4 against American rookies Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed.
Poulter sat out yesterday afternoon’s foursomes but was recalled this morning to partner Rory McIlory in the fourballs – again Poulter got off to a slow start and he and world number one McIlroy looked to be heading for defeat.
However, that all changed on the 15th hole as Poulter showed some of his Medina magic to chip in and bring the European duo back into the game.
McIlroy and Poulter built on that inspired shot to half the point – a crucial half point which keeps Europe in the lead ahead of this afternoon’s foursome ties.
