Another hole where the key is to dodge the fairway bunkers. There are three dangerous bunkers to be avoided down the right hand side but should players avoid them then we could see more birdries at this hole. Course designer Jack Nicklaus describes this as ‘one of the nicest holes on the golf course’.
Hole facts
Name: Carn Mairg
Distance: 445 yards
Par: Four
Top tip: A good drive will hug the left side, avoiding the two fairway bunkers.
Andrew Jowett, Head Professional at Gleneagles Resort, says
A good drive will hug the left side of the fairway, providing a view of the green for the second shot. Bunkers front left and back right protect the green that has a pronounced ridge running across it. The pros will be challenged on their second shot to get the ball on the same level as the pin. This is key to making a good score.
